99-02 24V Differences?

I have only owned 1st Gen and 3rd Gen trucks so I'm looking to you guys for an education and even your opinions on this. Curious about drivetrain and non-drivetrain differences. Opinions on which is the best year and why?
Thanks in advance.

for the VP44 i've red that 98.5 and 99 years are the most troubled years for pressure injection problems.. the VP pump was introduced in late 98 models.
I think 01 and 02 have had improvement over early years, even on trannys..

01.5 & 02 have disk brakes all the way around. NV5600 trans came out I think in 01 & 02's.

Thats probably true as the early trucks had the original vp's. By the time the 01 and 02s came around the bugs had probably been worked out of the vp44. By now though I am sure all of the 98.5s and the 99's have the updated vp44s.
My '99 vp44 made it to 144,000 miles with the original lift pump.

ONLY on the HO Models. Some 2000 non HO models also had the Nv5600 though.

I'm still running my stock VP44 in my 1999 at 99xxx miles (knock on wood). I replaced the lift pump about 1 year ago. Other than an intake and exhaust kit I'm stock. Done some HARD pulling over the years and have been very satisfied with the Cummins. My 2 cents.

not sure, AFter a few years 99-00 they changed to a Brass Advance sleeve in the VP44, this change caused early life fails,

My impression is, 99-00 VP44 better than 01-02,
But, As far as Electronics, the later ones may be better...

My 02 failed at 70k miles , Binding Advance piston...

Im not sure if this a good or bad thing but on my 02 my front drive is always spinning, there is no CAD or central axle disconnect.

Wow my first lift pump lasted maybe 5 months? Drove around for another 7 months without it working?
