5th gear took a hike
5th gear took a hike
Well obviously the title explains itself. 99.9% sure my 5th gear nut came off tonight while climbing a hill in cruise, kinda disappointing cuz the tranny is nearly new from High Gear Transmissions and the stated that the "5th gear nut issue" was solved, not knocking these guys at all, awesome guys to deal with very nice and always called to check on progress on the install, but I am sure I just unsolved the 5th gear issue, that was supposedly solved, so that kinda took my moral down a bit so I suppose Ill have it welded and slid in a new clutch while im at it. Thats my rant.
Have a good one!!

That sounds like a warranty issue!
My trans shop said my nv5600 should be bulletproof if I shift it slowly and keep the fluid to spec and changed out at their interval, so far so good 45K later!!
Take it back to that shop, you can't force that nut off anymore than you can kick out a killer dowel pin on purpose.

We need to come up with a good fix for you 2WD guys like they did for us 4X4 guys. Mine was the "fixed" unit as well, didn't last 500 miles according to the original owner. I put the splined retainer on over a year ago, perfect since.
Fixed several of the "Fixed" nuts with a slow , meaning keep the heat from building too bad,, heliarc weld. The best wire I;ve found is 308L. stainless tig wire, because the shaft is an alloy. never had one of them come loose. There is a fix for the older 2wd units that have the splined shaft for the speedo gear but use the speedo signal from the ABS sensor. But your '02 has a smooth shaft. Welding is it, other than the Torque King tail shaft.
