47RE Upgrade

I can't afford to get a Torque Converter and Valve Body at the same time. I was thinking about getting one soon and the other a little later. Is there a specific order I should install these in? Or do they both have to be at the same time. I realize that if the torque goes it could contaminate the valve body. If I started with the valve body would I be in danger of blowing up my torque converter?

I would do the vb first if I had to choose between the two.

And no, a good vb won't blow up your TC.

Agreed! I know one CTD with a DTT valve body and a factory TQ converter that ran hard for 2 yrs at 400 hp.
Mistake IMO, to do converter first. It's been done but not recommended.

Torque converter needs to be matched to the power level of the engine.

kenworth if you are going to pull the trans to do a torgue convertor at least freshen up the trans why you have it out . a five disc direct clutch, raybestos pro band and the rest of the bits and pieces to reseal and reclutch will only run you about three hundred dollars and an afternoons work, or you can get a masterkit from dtt for less than five hundred bucks.Putting 1500 dollars worth of convertor and valve body in a tired trans is like setting the money on fire in your driveway. I know i will get flamed by all the people who knew someone that did a convertor and valve body and ran 400 hp for two years with no problems, they just don't mention that they only drove 2,000 miles in those two years!!!

Another small note, you will come much closer to living with a 400 hp motor in front of a stock trans with a stock convertor and a built valve body than you will with a stock trans and a low stall convertor. The stock convertor will be so loose behind 400 hp that the engine will be way past its maximum torgue range every time you hit the throttle so the trans will never see anything near max torgue.
