47re trani fluid and filter change
Expecting my filter and gaskets from geno's tomorrow(?). I haven't got a service manual yet, are there any tricks or advice for changing the filter, fluid and adding a drain plug? Is it as straight forward as dropping/draining pan and changing filter, it's a 2002 2500 4x4 with 30,000 miles. Thanks.
Did you get the hard nylon thick gasket. Its the cats meow. You can reuse it , and it doesnt leak, put it on dry no gasket sealer. They say you need longer pan bolts for the thick gasket so you hit all the threads in the aluminum case , if the bolts are to short you could strip the threads. My bolts were long.
Yep . its straight foward. Get a big wide bucket. 2 vb bolts hold the filter.
I mig welded a drain plug on my pan.

Very straight forward... but plan ahead. Have something level that slides under pan, about 1" below it. May help catch the pan coming out. But is a big help holding the pan in place while getting the bolts started back in, especially if your working alone.
Getting pan, gasket and bolt holes lined up, and still having a free hand to insert first two bolts can be tricky. Extra pair of hands is great.... if not, I use a block of wood, than shim the pan & gasket up into place.
Expect a big mess, till you get a drain plug installed

It's a fluid evacuator. It comes with sections of line and you pump the top handle to create a vacuum. I bought a piece long enough to get six quarts out of a Dodge truck trans. The one shown above can be found for around 60-80 bucks. There are also ones that you flip a switch and allows you to pump from the container and also ones that utilize shop air.
