47re fluid & filter change

50,000 miles so I guess it is time for a fluid and filter change I baught this truck with 39,000 on it and it was changed at 25.000 says the owner
I picked up a filter at NAPA #1-8562 but it says for a Chry 42re,4 , is this the right filter for my 2001 47re ?? it looks different than my 727 filter that I am use in the 727 it has only 2 bolt holes and it has a round hole on one side and on the outher a slot about 1/2 " X 2 1/2" metal on one side plastic on the slot side. it came with 2 different gaskets but the guy at the counter said to use the one that is on there now?? Allso the fluid I picked up Mopar ATF+4 but thay only had 8qts is this enough for a fluid & filter change
Thanks for any help as I don't want to drop the pan if I don't have what I nead . Bud

I just checked my service manual and it showed all the auto. trans. with the same filter. I don't like it...I'm surprised they didn't show the same filter for the manual trans...lol...uh sorry, you might call a dealer or some of the other auto parts stores for more info.

The one he sold you is probably plastic, the one you are used to is the fine "fabric" filter. It will be fine and you will find your truck has the plastic one in it. The reason you have two gaskets is because the "kit" consists of one filter that fits both trannies, and two gaskets, one for the 727/518/618/47RERH/48RE and the other one is for the 904/42/44/46RHRE.

Thanks for the info McMopar, I can start believing the manual again.
Here's a pic.

It also said around 3 pints to refill after a filter change

Red face

How about this?
STANDARD PROCEDURE - FLUID AND FILTER
REPLACEMENT
For proper service intervals (Refer to LUBRICATION
& MAINTENANCE/MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES
- DESCRIPTION). The service fluid fill after a
filter change is approximately 3.8 liters (4.0 quarts).
(1) Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
(2) Place a large diameter shallow drain pan
beneath the transmission pan.
(3) Remove bolts holding front and sides of pan to
transmission (Fig. 85).
(4) Loosen bolts holding rear of pan to transmission.
(5) Slowly separate front of pan away from transmission
allowing the fluid to drain into drain pan.
(6) Hold up pan and remove remaining bolt holding
pan to transmission.
(7) While holding pan level, lower pan away from
transmission.
(8) Pour remaining fluid in pan into drain pan.
(9) Remove screws holding filter to valve body
(Fig. 86).
(10) Separate filter from valve body and pour fluid
in filter into drain pan.
(11) Dispose of used trans fluid and filter properly.

I love the copy-paste stuff...saves wear and tear on my one hunt-n-peck typing finger.
