Wich trani filter to use with Mag-Hytec pan
Wich trani filter to use with Mag-Hytec pan
I picked up my double deep pan today, and the dealer told me to use a differant filter and gave me the part number. (TF 127 from Autozone) When I got home and read the instruction's, they also recomended the differant filter. I guess you guy's that have installed these all ready know what I'm talking about.
Did any of you use the open element filter.
What I'm unsure of is the new filter will be about 1 1/2" higher off the bottom than the factory one. As long as the filter suck's in over the entire filter body, I guess that would be ok. But my friend doesn't think it will work like that. He think's it will only suck where the tube would be, and that's only about 1/2" surface. He think's the factory one with a 1" surface sucking off the bottom would be better. For those of you that don't know what the factory one look's like, it's basically all enclosed all the way around by a metal case. Then it has about a 1" hole on the bottom to suck in the fluid. So, wich one do you guy's think would be better.

BRJ,
There should be a "spacer" block that came with your DD pan. It mounts where the current filter mounts on the tranny and then has a place under it to mount the same filter. It puts the filter down deeper into the pan.
You shouldn't need to change to a different tranny filter. Stock one works fine.

Ya, I got the spacer block.
I guess what they are getting at is the open filter will be more exposed to a bigger area to suck in particle's. At least that's what I'm guessing.
Either that or they want you to move the filter up because the magnet on the bottom is so strong it will suck the metal enclosed fiter out of the trani.

Run the spacer and the stock filter, you won't have any issues at all. Couple things I would recommend as well. Plumb a secondary filter inline to the trans cooler.
Also on the stock cooler, there is a one way check valve. Cut that pos out, over time they clog and will torch your tranny. The inline filters have a built in check valve, or you can install a better one, but I ran with out one and an aftermarket huge cooler on my last dodge and it worked much better.

When I installed my DTT valvebody they recommended using the open filter element because it allows more flow. So I'm using that and the spacer block on my double deep pan. The only time my temp gauge moves off of 140 is when I'm in traffic. Other than that it sits on 140. I really need to get a different gauge.

Are you using the one I have pictured.
