3:55 to 4:10

I would like to swap the gears in my rear end from 3:55 to 4:10. Does anyone know if that's a straight across swap or would I have to change the whole rear end?

You just have to change the guts in the differential(s).

Since you have 4x4 in your sig, you have to change both, or you'll never be able to use 4x4 again.

Be prepared for sticker shock when you start pricing, labor will get you, unless you know how to do it yourself.

You'll also have to do something to get the speedometer/odometer to read correctly,
either a dealer flash of the PCM, or an aftermarket electron speedometer corrector.

Going from 3:54 to 4:10's is not just a swap unless you swap the whole axles on the rear with another truck, or swap from one truck to another the gears and they both have to be dana 80' or both dana 70's. If you just change gears you also need to change the carrrier. The front should be a simple change of gears or swap with another truck.

Nah, leave the front Diff 3.55 and the rear 4.10 It'll be a cool smoke show when you engae 4wd on ashphalt!

Front wheels turning at 30 Mph while the rears are only doing 10.

A mechanic I know accidentally did something similar on a MFWD Case tractor. Took it for a test drive around the pareking lot and the front wheels were flinging gravel onto the windows of teh cab...........

going from 355 to 410 require a rear end swap. but the 355 to a 390 gears would be just a gear swap. look in summit cat. and others because i could very well be wrong. 390 would be idea very littlr different.

They Do not make 3:90's for the dana 80 (at least not at the places I've talked to), do not know about dana 70's.

Why do you want to do this? Unless your towing enormous amounts of weight around on a daily event, what are you after? The cost can be substantial, unless you have the knowledge and tools to do it yourself.

For more towing power, I'd like to do hot shot work on the side. I rode with a friend of mine with a 6 speed and 410 gears and ya couldn't tell the trailer was back there.

I have to do something with mine. The rearend is shot. I too was considering going to the 3:73's for better pulling power. I don't think there is enough difference there to hurt you if you had to put in 4x4 on the road. I know it wouldn't hurt you in the dirt. If I put 3:73's in my truck, will it have any affect on anything in 2 wheel drive. I know the front end turns, but does it turn the front drive shaft. I called West Coast Differential & they quoted me 136 for the 4 bearing install kit & 234 on the ring gear set. What should labor run to do this job? I am going to look at swapping to an 02 rearend so I can have rear disc brakes & weigh out the cost difference.

3.54 dana 60 carriers will support 4.10 - 4.11. The split is 4.56. rear dana 70's will support the same, with the split also at 4.56. Don't know about 80's.

I have seen a lot of people wanting to change from 3.55 to 4.10 but none of them are close to Me. Is there anyone near Huntington WV that would like to make the swap. I do not tow and would love to have the increased mileage on the road with the 3.55s.
