Had this truck since new (only 49K miles) Has a Banks system on it, but doesn't ever get driven hard, but this morning I took off and for 100 yards I had absolutely no power, and white smoke. Couldn't shift out of 2. Then all of a sudden like a flip of a switch everything was back to normal. I'm kinda new here so any help would be appreciated. I've read about the VP44 issues, and know how much they cost and would like to head off any expensive repairs.

 

It could be a sign ,Did you check for codes? it could also be from sitting for a long time,My 01 does it every oncein awhile and its done it for the last 5 years , its rare but it happens. check for codes key off and on 3x leave in on pos. dont start read ODO for codes you will get Pdone when its through

That is a companion code.... means there is the same code in the ECM that is showing up in the PCM.....
There should be at least one other code?
I would check simpy things first, before jumping to a $1200
+ VP-44.

Thanks for the idea. I think I got it updated, but it is a 6sp instead of Auto. Truck has done this thing twice in the last month. Other than that it runs fine. Hate to sound like a newbie but what are the simple things and how can I rule out the ottomind banks tuner box?

most likely you have a pump issue. What is the fuel pressure at the injection pump?

I would go to Autozone, or somewhere with a professional scanner, and get a more complete readout on your codes.
