2001 tranny problem

just bought the 01 ram 2500 w/ auto. the tranny doesnt shift right from 1st to 2nd. sometimes it's good, but then other times i'll have to get up to about 2800 rpms before it will shift to 2nd. just wondering what the edit i might be able to do to get it right.

Fluids good, color and smell. Check on level ground with engine running in Neutral with engine running, emergency brake on

About 2 months ago mine was doing the same thing then started locking into OD at very low speed and stalling the truck.
Turned out to be the speed sensor and a cheap fix. Shifts great now.

I would have a trans shop run a scanner on it before throwing money at it.

Also check the second gear (sometimes called kickdown) band adjustment on the left side of the tranny. If it still is acting up, you could also have a shop do a few pressure tests on the trans. That will usually tell the story.

I didn't do mine cause I didn't know what was wrong at the time , however , had I known that was the problem I could have done it myself.
It's located towards the rear of the tranny on drivers side.
Let us know what the problem was when fixed.
