2001 starting issues!

I have looked thru some previous posts and cannot find exactly what mine is doing... I just bought the truck about a month ago, VP and lift pump was replaced about 40K ago, the problem iam having is when it sits overnight it will not want to start, i will crank for a few seconds then i have to turn key to on and the pump will run about 20 seconds and shut off, then i have to crank for another 5-10 seconds and it will start. Truck runs great when running, any ideas what to look for? Thanks!

Fuel pressure is at 14-15 when running.... could it be a bad overflow valve? or leaking return line sucking air?

Possible drain-back on the IP. I had a similar issue once. Checked my injection lines and found them to be loose after some work was done to it at a shop. Tightened lines, and my problem was solved. I was getting air in the system, thus the air would displace the fuel overnight at the end of the lines a tiny bit, allowing the fuel to drain backwards in the system.

Go over the fuel system from the tank to the vp44 looking for air leaks. Loose fittings as stated above is prime suspect imo. Don't forget to check the fuel filter cap for damaged/crushed O ring.
