Sounds like the atypical vp44 failure routine as the others have said. While it is still running have someone test lift pump pressure. If below 3 psi the story is complete. Have you changed filter lately? A new lift pump with new VP44 is mandatory.

The easiest is farming out to friendly diesel repair facility. Make sure a few CTD's are on the lot. Have found many to be very competive. And remember saving money is only part of the total job. Your Sanity counts.

Hate to say it, but I've just gone through the same thing. Exactly same symptoms. I'd definetly check out the 0234 code. I didn't have that one but I did have the 0216. You can check my threads and find some good information that the guys provided me with and see all the things I've tried. Unfortunately none of them worked and I've concluded the VP44 is going bad. Richard from Coaltrain Diesel Performance has been A LOT of help. He's provided me with great information and gone out of his way to help. Seems like a great guy, if you don't have a regular diesel shop I'd give him a call or PM him here at Rbratby.
Just replaced my pump
Just replace my injection pump a couple months ago. Truck just acted really cold blooded and would just sputter except for the occasional spurt and then back to no power. Checked for any DTC's and found po216. If you have this code it means it's time for a new pump. If you go through dodge's troubleshooting charts it tells you to check your lift pump pressure, check your fuel filter. The codes actual description says something to the effect of injection pump timing error. Well if no ones been messing around with your pump timing then it can only be internal. Usually this means excessive wear around the diaphram in the pump. Also I think in the later years of the 24v bosch used a brass "washer" instead of a steel one and these are prone to early failure problems as well. The pump I bought is from blue chip diesel and I have had great luck with mine so far. They sell pumps only with brand new fedex rated computers installed so even less chance of a bogus rebuild. They will also provide you with detailed instructions and a gear puller if you don't have your own. The pump is a little more up front but I would do business with them again for sure.
