a pressure gauge would help in a diagnoses. what is main line pressure? what is the Governor pressure rise v MPH. if the throttle pressure valve is sticking it will cause late shift's. main line pressure will help tell if TV valve is stuck.

What year is your truck? Do you have an engine mounted APPS? If you do, you can try adjusting your throttle valve pressure. Follow this link down to the 8th and 9th post, pictures and description:http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...nsmission.html

If the link will not work because it's TDR and sometimes you have to be a member before you can view.

Adjust the throttle valve cable, it is the cable running from the transmission into the back of the engine mounted APPS. There is a plastic clip on the cable at the rear of the APPS, outside the plastic cover, slide the clip free, towards the driver fender, then you can adjust the cable 1 groove at a time(about an 8th of an inch). In your case, you want to shift up sooner, so slide the cable into the APPS one groove at a time and test. If the need is to hold each gear longer, slide the cable towards the firewall, hopefully you are able to view the link above, because once you see the procedure, it's simple.

It should have an engine mounted APPS, Timbo's Home page states 98.5/2002.

Try adjusting the TV cable.
