01 problems

I'm having some problems with my 01 auto 4x4. It used to be for the first few miles it would kick out every once in a while and then eventually work fine. Now its doing it all the time, except when I'm chasing cows or something then its fine. What I mean by kicking out is if your driving along it will seem like you let off the pedal. You can hold it to the floor and nothing happens, it will not rev past 1900rpm. Most of the time you can let off and wiat till it returns to idle then hit the pedal again and away it will go. One time I stopped and even in park it would not rev past 1900. I had to shut the truck off and restart and then it was fine. Its got me puzzled, any ideas?

Try reseting the ECM by disconnecting both neg cables for half hour or so.
If that doesn't fix the problem, do an APPS reset.
To that it, turn the key on but don't start the truck. SLOWLY put the go pedal to the flore and slowly let off. Turn the key off an see if that worked.
Almost forgot, see if you have any codes.
Turn the key on and off 3 times without starting. The codes will come up on the odometer on the dash.

Ok i'll give that a try. Is that the prefered method of resetting the apps? Vs. checking voltage and taking it apart and turning it to match the tag?

You reset it with the pedel to floor thing. The other is adjusting it to closer match what it should be set at.

Also, I don't know how many miles you have on yours, but the APPS was replaced on my 01 at approx 60k miles.

It sounds to me like your injection pump is bad. Do all the other checks first, to be sure. I went throught the same process to find out my IP was bad. I was having the exact same problem.

I agree. Do you have a fuel pressure guage on this truck?

I have the same truck - and have been through 4 lift pumps and 1 injector pump.

Without a fuel pressure guage - just a matter of time before you take out an injector pump. First LP goes - results in you driving the truck starving the IP - which results in a comprimised IP.

Good luck.

I don't have a fuel pressure gauge, I've got a dummy light kit on order but its not here yet. I suspect the IP as well. They seem to go every 250k or so and I'm way over that so...

Still not getting anywhere with this thing, when it kicks out there is lots of smoke and it seems to do it worse when its colder out. I tried reseting the apps and it seemed like it made it worse
