Yukon

So after much searching/researching I settled on a yukon air locker for both my front and rear axles. Basically with a flip of a switch, high pressured air enters the locker inside the axle and locks both wheels up. Once the air is gone, the locker goes to a open, which is what I have now from factory.

Few questions, how does one go about adjusting the worm gear so the contact is using all the gear and not just half. How is this adjusted, through the yoke with shims?

The next question.. before I fire away on this (since it's a lot of money and my wife will probably lock me in the closet) is there another brand? I've basically been stuck between ARB and Yukon.

You could look at an Ox Locker, manually operated. Changing the diff. will not change the pinion depth, which is what you would change with the shims behind the yoke, you backlash might change, which is controlled by the shims on each side of the diff. bearings. Check your current backlash with a dial indicator, and that is pretty much what you want it to be. From the FSM, backlash should be .004-.009 which seems excessively tight to me, perhaps that is new tolerance. I wouldn't freak unless it was over .015 if I didn't beat on it all the time.

their the best of both worlds, minimal tire wear, 100% lock only when needed, a buddy uses his compressor to fill tires as another option, when he needed the lock in the middle of a nasty boulder section, the compressor failed, we were lucky to have another available to rig up and get him through. ive been loving the powerlok since my high school days in the '70's, very tough, and with some brake pressure, side gear clutch torque locks the unit up nicely when necessary, ive gone everywhere the full lockers go, just my preference.

Eaton e-locker, locked when engaged, limited slip when disengaged, if I remember correctly. Electric powdered, no air necessary.

Just another option.

If you set it to tight it will eat itself apart

Yea, they aren't as well known, but some pretty hard core rockies use them. I like the idea that like my 12 valve, baling wire and duct tape should get me home, they sell a plug that you can crawl under it and replace the cable that locks her in........ I'm going with one for my 72 Blazer.

Yeah, I'm loving how you can have the air locker and then use the manual locking nut if things go south. Looks like I will have to save up, these are a tad more expensive.

Good review

Well, I'm in a pickle here. I went to order the OX and found out they don't make the locker for the dana 70, they have it on the back burner though. So I went back to yukon and they don't make one either!!

My only option now is with ARB which I think I'll be going with. Unless I do a mix match which I don't want.
