Yahoo! I bought a truck!

After a good bit of study and searching, I found a '92 D350 dually only about 5 miles from my house.
Original owner, 230K miles, Getrag (sounds and shifts OK), recent clutch and ball joints. Needs some body work and paint, rear tires, and a complete exhaust system, mine for $2500.
Plan is to add gauges (probably Autometer, I've had good luck with them on my diesel LandCruiser) and a 4" exhaust. After that maybe a smaller turbo housing and then???
Thanks to all who contribute to this site, my time lurking here and and at other CTD sites on the net has been a great help.

Great buy! Do the turbine housing first, that 21 cm housing is just . Drill the manifold for the pyro while you have the turbo off.

I just bought a truck also. A 1 owner 91 W250 with only 81k miles in better than excellent shape. No rust,no dents,no rips in the interior, and no modifications. It is a non intercooled, no overdrive 727. How did these trucks pull a trailer? A little slow off the start because of the high gearing? how about performance and mileage while towing. My trailer is only about 5000lbs loaded

congrats on your truck,,,,

mudbuster mines also a 727 non o/d it pulls ok I turned the pump up a round and turned the fuel cone, which helped a lot, a smaller housing on the turbo will help a lot taking off as well ,i'll be getting a o/d tranny as soon as i can, then drop rear end to 3.56 or 3,73 i think those numbers are right. I believe with that setup it will top out around a 100 mph and have a lot more off the line. I routinly pull a 8,000 lb gooseneck and a 13,000 lb tractor and baler on it now, its just takes me a bit to get up to 55. milage is around 21 on the highway,,mines a 350 dually but they are mostly the same.

Mudbuster, take your inspection cover off the rear diff, check your lock screw and center pin for the spiders. If there is any wear or damage to these, get new ones and reinstall the lock pin with locktite. Then fill with synthetic. I think both parts should be in the $50 range. When the 3.07 axle goes it can only be replaced with another 3.07 which is made anymore. Gears cannot be swapped out. I don't know if you can still get 3.07 for the front (doubt it), but being a smaller carrier, I'm pretty sure the gears in this could be swapped down to 4:10's if somebody needed. Just FYI.

Gears could be swapped the the change to a different carrier from a D60 or D70 with the lower gears. The carriers can be found used or new ones bought from places like randys ring and pinion.. ect.
