why did my milage start SUCKING!!!

ive noticed lately that my milage has dive bombed off. so i start going through my truck doin the odds and ends to get her back to par. right now i drive roughly 40 miles a day and my gauge is telling me im burning about an 1/8 tank a day. i can watch the gauge move as i drive sometimes. i did the fuel filter and my tranny was slipping so i did the fluid in that. i have a 4 inch turbo back straight pipe but i didnt think that would hurt milage. i guess ill try inflating my tires more???? i also started adding 16oz of 2 cycle every fillup but once again how could that hurt milage? any sugestions would help. and im easy one the skinny pedal before anyone asks.

On my 3rd gen I actually saw a reduction in mileage with two-stroke oil. I'd say stop with the oil. When that tank runs out, add some injector cleaner, fill it up and see what happens. Look things over to make sure you don't have a fuel leak and don't forget to check your air filter.

If your auto-trans is slipping, I doubt a fluid change alone will fix that. Time for a rebuild.

I drive a 96 ext.cab 4x4 long bed. I was getting 20-23 mpg empty, pulling my 24' closed in goose neck 18-19 mpg. I had the IP rebuilt in July this yr. since the
rebuild my mpg dropped to 15 mpg. What could be going on. This is a stock truck except for K&N air filter, filter is new,. will listen for ideas Thanks Gene

Gene Kautz- check your timing.

Dodgethis91cmns- check your lift pump output. That will bring your MPGs into the tank in a hurry. Also could be winter fuel. Has this happened before when going to winter fuel?

When I used 2 stroke oil, I noticed a drop in MPG in a few trucks, nothing in others. Never gained any, though, so I quit using it.

What brought this on? Was it all of a sudden?

What is your boost at cruising speed?

After I put the exhaust on my 93 the mileage went down. Tightened up the starwheel and it jumped back up 2 mpg.

92roughstock- ill check my lift pump output, i just got a fuel pressure gauge, i just need to get a 2 5/8 gauge cup to mount it and then ill know what shse got. ive replaced it once already but it could have died again. i dont ever remeber it being this bad with winter fuel

captainchryslter- ive noticed it over about a month. i really started to notice it when we moved show ups at work. iwas driving about 30 mins then we moved to pheonixville and im driving about an hour now and really noticed it getting bad. im putting out about 3-4 psi crusing at 50

I agree and that could be why milage is suffering also, depending on how bad it is.

A slipping tranny and winter diesel would be a good combination for terrible fuel mileage.

Sounds fine for a stock lift pump.
