Question Where to install the trans temp guage

Well I am getting ready to install the trans. I have to flush out all the lines and then I am ready. I have a rebuilt 518 and a Georend's converter, now that I have all that money tied up in the trans area I am going to install a guage (which I have had for the last year). Where should I install the probe???? I have done some searching and have not found a strait forward answer so I figured I would ask the group. If any has any pics and instructions on where they installed theirs I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

and the lifesaver part for mounting the tranny probe
Adapter - 2271

the adapter allows you to remove the factory sender (leave it plugged in but tied out of place) and put the mech sender in without hindering the flow of the tranny fluid. the factory senders only purpose (that i know of) is to kickdown out of o/d above something crazy like 270 degree. since you will be watching the gauge and not allowing that anyways there is no reason (IMO) that you shouldn't use the port. there is an image pending approval of the adapter in my gallery. all gauge #'s are for autometer Z-series

dug this up too from micaiahfield in a old thread called gauges, gauges, gauges

Does a 3speed non od truck have the temp sensor? I think that will be my problem because I am going from a 727 to a 518.

Nope, those 727 trucks don't have the high temperature switch, which is what some people call a temperature sensor.

I have one in the hot line and one in the pan on my truck.
Let me know if you want to put it in the hot line, I can get a JIC to JIC to pipe thread T for you and cut and flare the steel line to put the sender in.

Since they don't make a triple mount, I had my trans temp gauge mounted on the floor on the "hump" of the floor board. Seems a third gauge would be too high to read anyways.

Autometer sells the simple flat brackets for the 2 & 1/16" gauges for pretty cheap. You can get them in 1, 2, and 3 hole flavors. I was thinking of putting a FP gauge down there in the future.

I hope it is ok if I ask a question on this subject.... my probe is installed in the location provided by the double deep Mag Hytec pan I have on my trans. I think my gauge reads low. When driving around unloaded, It hardly goes above 100* Once in a blue moon it will touch 125*. I thought I read somewhere that normal is 170*...

While not a "bolt-on" triple pillar mount, they ARE made...

I can see the gauge pretty well, even though it's on top

Yeah... not my style. I would prefer to stay away from pillar mounts altogether myself, but 2 is ok.

I think as far as location of the guage I am going to put it where the "Cargo" lamp switch is along with a fuel psi guage. That is until I build my 3 to 4 guage pod where the speaker grill is in the dash. My problem is the probe location which I think I am going to go with what JD730 suggested and ad a "T" into the hot side line.
