Wheel fell off driving...

Well the other night while taking a turn doing about 40km/hr she started to understeer then bang I see my front left rim rolling across the street. I managed to pull it to the side of the road. Recovered the wheel borrowed 4 lug nuts from the back wheels. 2 studs were broken, 2 bent and 4 were usable enough to put the wheel back on and limp it home slowly.

Anyways, I'm ordering a new rim today, lugs, studs etc. I haven't got it apart yet but I'm wondering if it's possible to knock the studs out the back of the rotor and slip the new ones in, or do you have to pull the whole assembly?

Oh it's a 93 W250...

I'd just take the rotor off.

Leaving it on would be the easy way. In my experience the easy way usually ends up taking longer and costing more.

Good Day,
JP.

sledge hammer works wonders. and when removing old ones, I spin the lugnut onto the stud when i'm hammering them out, that way the nut takes most of the force and not the stud.

And don't forget to go around and tighten the lugs, that is what happened. They loosened up.

I lost one off my 1/2 ton chevy. It was the drivers rear. I was doing at least 60 and the truck droped down and hooked the tire on the fender and then rear bumper. I thought I was going to flip over frontwards. I bet the truck jumped up about 6 feet when it hooked the rear bumper. ( UM, dad,,,, can you come get me??? and bring the trailer. )

Sounds like the w200 front ends are hard on wheel studs. Have you considered upgrading to 9/16" studs.
