What's the Real Reason...

that you purchased your CTD? This will by my third truck in a year, and i keep on telling myself that it's gonna be the fuel mileage and towing capability. Viable claims or no?

thanks,

Kelly

well the reason i bought mine, is for the power, being able to trust it, the awesome power, and to b able to make it a hot rod and not loose fuel mileage

Well I like the look of the 91-93 grill. Reminds me of my ol Power Wagon in a way. The MPG & Towing are just a bonus for me. Told myself when I sold my Power Wagon 4 years ago, that my next full size would be a CTD and it is!

I had been pulling a small travel trailer with a Suburban.

That rig couldn't get out of its own way. Lousy mileage.

Sold it all, bought the Cummins (it came to the local RV dealer as a trade-in). Then we knew we could drag whatever we wanted, so we went out and bought the 5er.

MPG went up, even towing a 5er instead of the smaller trailer at greater highway speeds.

We've taken the 5er to Alaska twice, Newfoundland once, mid-Canada once, and all over the US.

Love it.

Same as Firedude for me. I'd been around medium duty trucks for several years and noticed that what problems the trucks were having almost never involved the engine. Plus I just love the way an inline six diesel sounds going up through the gears. After almost 2 years, I still love to get in and drive it.

I have wanted one ever since they put the Cummins in them. I had a 90 gasser that was a great truck that we sold needing more room. I bought a 94 2500 later on with the Cummins and loved it bombed it but it got totaled. I went in search on a first gen because that was what I had always wanted. I finally found one that would work with what I had planned. Drove 10 hours to get it over 4th of July weekend. I pull trailers everynow and then, but the main reason I wanted it was because of the fuel mileage. I drive around 70 miles a day to and from work. I get in the neighborhood of 20mpg and still have a 3/4 ton 4x4 that will outrun out pull most any of the newer trucks on the road. Plus it is paid for, and still has lots of life left in her with only 175,000 miles on it.

I converted mine because the 440 I had got 4.5mpg. It would pull a house but it loved gas.
I am a Dodge loyalist I wont own any other, and when Dodge came out with CTD and made an impact on the diesel market -all was right with the world-
I never was a "Diesel Guy" but running around with poor fuel milage made me make the switch. Now (thanks to you people) there isnt a week that goes by that I dont think about ways to get even more power from it. I love the power, Sound and MPG.

I wanted something that would handle a cabover camper and be able to tow the Jeep/trailer and still get more than single digit MPG. Even loaded to 14k pounds and pulling lots of 6-8% grades, my truck still gets 12 MPG+. Heck, it gets better mileage in town (17+ MPG) than my F150 did on the highway (15 MPG...if I was lucky).

i really want a 93 i am looking at, it's only got around 90k miles, and it would haul all my toys to the sand dunes. But, i will be driving around 45 miles round trip to
work starting in June, and the guy says it only gets 16-18 mpg.....idk what to do?

was digging around on the net looking for turbo/intercooler stuff and found a 1st gen dually running mid 13's... started researching turbo diesels and decided the Cummins was the way to go. The first time I heard a straight piped Cummins, I was hooked. all the other stuff is just icing on the cake...

I needed somethign to pull my cruiser to teh trails. being just out of college and dealing with an 87 F250 460 gasser gettign 5 mpg no matter what, then a 78 gmc k20 with a 350 gettign same millage i was fed up with leaving an hour before everyone else to go to teh same wheeling spot(cuz it towed so slow, neither truck let me down just slow and old) so i had been hunting for a first gen because i could pay cash for it, cheaper insurance and the high milage wasnt a scare off. found it, killer price and i love the thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howdy,

I've wanted one of these trucks since they got the Cummins motor.
I read that the test mule motors had 750,000 miles on them before a rebuild was necessary, and I was sold.
I also bought my truck because of fuel mileage.

My old W250 with 360/727 got somewhere around 8-10 mpg,and was not exactly a tiger with the trailer behind it.

This truck gets around 20mpg and I can barely tell there's anything behind it.

I was also aware of how much you could hotrod these diesel motors...and I was looking forward to "bombing" it.

I already had several turbocharged Dodge vehicles, and they were tons of fun...so I figured a full size pick-up would just be BIGGER fun...and I was right...

Mostly because I like the look of it. I got mine about 6 years ago with 88.000 miles for $10,500. Boy, now being at 241,175 miles in 6 years goes to show how these trucks last and last. Just love the power after waking it up alittle.
