What tranny do I have?
I have a 91.5 W-250 5speed manual and at first I thought that I had the Getrag since that would be what originally came in my truck, but after looking through this site I am second guessing that. My truck has about 220k on it and my tranny is very smooth and all the synchros work great 1-5 and there is no play in the shifter and you can't feel any grinding or anything. From what I have read on here bearings or something go out on the getrags when they are ran hot, and I know my truck was worked really hard for most of it's life, so my tranny being replaced or rebuilt would not be that far fetched. The main thing I am wondering is how to check to see if my Getrag was swapped for an NV4500, because I read in a thread that the floor has to be cut because the shifter is back about 4" on the NV 4500. Well on my truck there is a plate rivited in front of my shifter just about that size. How would I check to know what tranny I have in my truck, or is that rivited plate supposed to be there in front of my shifter and I am just looking to far into this?
A quick check would be to check where the transfer case shifter is bolted. The getrag bolted directly to the side of the transmission case, the NV usually has an adapter bolted to the flanged point where the transmission fastens to the transfer case. If someone converted it using factory parts the slave cylinder would be mounted on the rear side of the bellhousing.
Well, now that the snow is off the driveway and it quit raining I took some more time and looked and found that it is a getrag, I didn't know where to look or even if there was a tag that said what it was, but found one under alot of dirt and grease and after I cleaned it off it said getrag on it.

There are all kinds of people driving Getrags that have a blue-million miles on them that have no idea that the Getrag is a lousy transmission, pulling big John Deere tractors and big, huge cattle trailers hundreds of thousands of miles, blissfully ignorant of the fact that the transmission could fly into a million pieces at any moment.

I just hope mine is one of those that last millions of miles!!! What got me looking to see what tranny I had was I was looking at a tranny cooler for it after seeing one in another thread, hopefully if I get one of those it will help extend the life.

, look under the truck and read the side of the transmission.
