what kind of power

woundering what kind of power you guys think i'm makeing
because its time to upgrade the clutch, it won't hold any boost over 25psi
what would be a good clutch for towing about 10,000lbs ?
dont want to buy one for upto 350 and have it not hold, but dont want to buy one for 500 and never need it, type thing.
who has had good luck with what?

Unless you are planning to go nuts with more fuel, a stock Sachs clutch is hard to beat.

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy a 12" clutch.

I think you can get a new Sach's clutch for about $400 from a few places, South Bend is one I believe.

The original Sachs clutch will hold far more power than you will ever be able to put to the ground when towing 10,000 pounds. Your EGT's will be the limit well within the comfort range of the clutch. The sachs is an excellent towing clutch.

Im kind of in the same dilemma. My stock clutch is slipping when i shift it hard into 4th and 5th, and im trying to figure out what to get. I figured before I start getting more fuel I should hook it up first

Not to hijack (sorry), but are all the input shafts on the 4500 and the getrag the same?

Also, just to clarify, the stock clutch is a 13" right? Cause my friendly auto parts store just talked to BD diesel (southbend supplier) and he said that the 13" was an upgrade, and all the books seem to say the stocker is a 12".
Also, when you buy the southbend, do you need to get the flywheel kit, or can you just get the clutch/pressure plate?

The standard 4500 input shaft matches the 'rag.
Stock 1st gen clutches (sachs) are 13''. Most places don't recognize Dodge as having a diesel truck pre '94 and many catalogs will call a 13'' clutch an 'upgrade' in reference to that sorry POS 12.25''-er 2nd gen trucks came with---even when refering to a 1st gen. Ugh. If your flywheel can be turned, any single disk SB unit should work with it. Sounds to me like your clutch is shot---a good sachs unit should hold your mods easily...if you're not slipping it.

i am thinking of have a new stock 12.25 one upgreaded with higher plate load/stiffer springs, is this a good idea?
don't know if my flywheel is drilled for the 13" or not.

AFAIK, there's no such animal as a 12.25'' sachs...at least not as a stock/direct replacement for the original. If the flywheel is the original, it is machined for a 13'' clutch, though, if you're running a 12.25'' disk it'll need to be re-surfaced for a 13'' disk if you go that route. For the money you're wanting to spend and for your application (towing 10k), the sachs cannot be beat, period.

Don't even think about a 12" clutch. Where, how, who said, you have a 12" Sach's clutch?
