what makes the 13 better than the 12.25?
The 13 inch Con OFE from Southbend has been modified to accept the 1.25" input shaft which means that it is 2-3 larger an stronger than what the 12.25 can provide. Rated up to 450 HP and 1000 ft. lbs. of torque. I have one and often tow a 10k plus trailer here in the N.Ga mountains with no problems what so ever. If you go with a 12.25 with beefed-up springs, the springs will hold but the spring seats will disintegrate and dump metal tabs in between your flywheel and friction plate causing slippage under load. This very thing happened to me so I bit the bullet and sprung for the Con OFE from Southbend and couldn't be happier. Take a look at my signature for my power ratings.
Hope this helps.

Peace,

Joseph

I don't know how well they shift at high rpm, but everyone says they shift slow. I would imagine they would shift better at a higher rpm, but ???

Well I was going to ask if you have seen the dtr special for the southbend, but just checked here and its not on special anymore

http://store.dieseltruckresource.com/sobedudi32du.html

It was $1000.

What are you going to go with?

What he said. Just like a junk parts store like Autozone. Sure they've got a warranty, but when your junk part, in this case, your clutch fails, it gets replaced with an identical junk part. No way out of it except, spend your money again on a superior part. Stock 13" Sachs clutch, call South Bend.

From talking to Peter the one he's making me will shift just fine at high RPM. Thats what I got it for, extreme holding power and quick shifting since I need all the help I can get if this tank is ever going to run 12's. lol

SB recomended the 6 button 3250 plate load instead of the 12 button 3600 plate load for quick shifting and drag racing. These are prety much the same as the ones a few 800hp common rails run. My little VE 12v will never hurt that thing.

i got a full ceramic(has 8 pucks on it) 4,000lbs plate load luk clutch.
the place i got the other one warranty'd it so i just paid the difference and went ceramic, they said i shouldn't be able to slip it.....will see.

they did not want to sell me this clutch because of my high gears and what i'm doing with the truck said it would be grabby. they also said the hotter it gets the better it grabs

I bet it will be grabby. I drove a topkick with a ceramic clutch and it squealed like crazy when you tried to ride the clutch if you were in a tight spot.
