What to do? Quick, I need help.
Does anybody else know anything about doing this? A couple more supporters and the theory would help. And any advice on the heat exchanger would be nice. I don't really know what to do with it. I did find that both coolant lines for the exchanger are leaking. I would really like to just get rid of it and maybe get the under-bed cooler/e-fan working. Any help?
Ok, so I swapped the OD unit tonight. Didn't have to drop the VB for the park rod, didn't have to switch the output shafts, just unbolted the 2wd and bolted the 4wd. Is there something wrong with this? Should not have worked? Anyone think it will work when I get it back in the truck? God I hope so. Thanks for everyone's input though, I guess I should have just tried it in the first place. I just hope it works. Thanks again everybody.
That's what I thought. After I slid the OD unit off, I measured the trans output shaft and everything was exactly the same. So as long as I didn't mess anything up I should be able to drive the truck again.
Ok so I hadn't been able to work on the truck in a day or two, I have the trans ready to go in but.....
I checked to make sure everything is ok an it's not. I moved the shift lever on the side of the trans and it clicks once and goes kind of freely. From the all the way back position you can click it forward once and then freely move it ahead towards the front of trans. Anyone know what is wrong? I didn't take anything apart other than the OD unit. The trans worked excellent in my other truck, why does it not want to work now? Any help?

Anybody? Is there something I can do before I put it in the truck? Should I put it in and then figure it out. I just don't get how it worked fine in my other truck, I took it out and now it doesn't.
Sounds like you dropped the gear detent ball..
Did you pull the pan ?
There's a spring and a ball bearing that cause the shift lever to 'click' into place. Sounds like that's what gone.
Can't find my parts breakdown on auto trans....Mislaid it

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the trans will chime in with what I'm trying to say. And tell you how to check it.

I didn't pull the pan. I guess I am going to have to. How did this happen without taking anything apart on the actual trans? The only thing that I had apart was the OD unit. Thanks for the advice.
I don't think so. With the OD unit off of the old trans. you can still click through the gears. I don't know if maybe something is out of adjustment (if there is any) and by placing it in gear in my old truck it just worked or if there is something really wrong with it. If anyone has any knowledge, please I am all ears. Thanks guys.
Well I got it. Trans works beautiful. The no-shift problem was in the valve body, around the detent ball and spring the casing was cracked and pushed in against the ball preventing it from coming out to catch the teeth on the shift lever. So I just snapped out the tiny piece that was broke and stuffed it back together. After giving it about 150 miles of flogging last night I think it's good to go. Thanks for all the help.
