redid headliner the other night

I didn't take any before or in progress pics but heres a couple of it almost done. I couldn't sleep one night so I did this instead. The old one used to rub my head because it was falling down so bad. The color isn't perfect it's lighter gray but close enough for me.

and up but not really fully installed

Looks nice! I need to do the same soon. How long did it take you? Was the trim pretty cooperative, or did a lot of it break? I'm a little uncomfortable about taking it on, but yours looks good.

I think it would have taken a few hours if I would have worked on it all at once. I pulled it out a day or two before I really got working on recovering it. When you glue it it should stay upside down for a while I'm betting 24hours would be best I only let mine setup for a few hours before I put it back in. The worst part for me pealing the glue and foam left overs off the panel before I could glue the new stuff on. My trim piece at the top of the windshield was already cracked and it cracked worse going back together the rest of the plastic pieces seam pretty solid. getting it back in by myself wasnt fun but I bet it wouldn't be to bad with help. getting all the screws back in the original holes wasn't all that easy either but I had been up for almost 24 hours and couldn't sleep when I decided it should go back together, I was a little less calm than I would have normally been.
I'll be working on one for my dakota next(it's leaning against the wall staring at me right now just like it has for the last month). The Ram was a practice run so I was sure I could do a good job on the dakota. I'll take some in progress pics of that one

I tried to reglue mine but ended up saying things that could have me eating soap in the old days and threw it away. Paint looked good so now I have a painted bare headliner.

I used 3M general trim adhesive, it's the medium strength stuff I think the high strength is a little harsh and may eat away the foam on the headliner material.

I did the same thing with one of my dakotas, it's still painted to this day. you have to buy new headliner material. it's generally not the glue that breaks down and lets it fall it's usually the foam padding that deteriorates letting it fall down.

Thumbs up

I have been thinking about just junking mine (in the process of drooping in the corners but still attached around the perimiter) and going with Line-x or a DIY bed liner product. Not sure yet.

Looks good though, was it an OE or Afr Mkt replacement or a DIY job?

For y'all who are thinking about ditching your headliners, I'll say that when I pulled the headliner on my old 91.5 (92 Red), I found a nice paint job, and the liner went to the garbage man. It was a single cab work truck and I didn't feel the least bit bad about it.

My current CTD is a Club Cab and my opinion is that it would be out of place to pull the liner out. I found a website that sells enough of the correct fabric and a can of spray glue for $50 shipped, so that's how I'm going to fix the 93. www.autoheadliner.com Please do let me know if any of you has had a bad experience with this outfit- I'm still working up my nerve!!

when i redid the headliner in my ramcharger (you should try that if you think a club cab is hard!) i got the material from a fabric store. impress your wife by taking her there. or not, as when i went, all the women in there were impressed that a guy was actually was buying material.

The best way to get all that crap off is to use a stiff plastic bristled brush and GENTLY rub it across the insulation type stuff. Have to be careful with this otherwise it starts to gouge.

absolutely, i agree 100%.

as for the adhesive, i used the 3m stuff in the red and black can. you'll know it when you see it, it will be the most expensive stuff on the shelf. 4 years later my headliner looked like i did it yesterday.

I took my mom to the fabric store she had a 50% off coupon in her name for the place the one I went to only had the light gray and black to choose from but I got enough to do both trucks(and extra) for like $25 would have been $50.

I want to redo mine in wetlands camo. It is a hunting truck, and will probably get a wetlands camo seat cover, door trim, and maybe a little vinyl wrap action as well.

I recovered mine last weekend and will be putting it back in tonight. I also insulated the back wall of the cab and added some carpet there, and replaced the bench seat with a set of 60/40 buckets that I had in a parts truck. I've got the dash apart now to put in switchs for the 6 lights on the BHRB (Big Honkin' Roll Bar) I just picked up, as well as for 2 sets of driving lights I'm going to mount into the grille. As soon as I get it all back together I'll post some pics.
