I left a gallon jug of 100% antifreeze on the back shop step to run as a test and I will tuck Poncho back in the heated shop where it is warm until further research is done.
Thanks Oliver. I just love it, warm at 10 degrees F.. ...Mark

Yeah it was probably 0 last night and high of 20F today with partial sun. Last weekend was a high of 44F. Char. and I where walking the dogs in the woods in sweatshirts and no gloves on Sunday.
It felt warm in comparison to the -35F I saw a few weeks ago. The sun is starting to feel warm again when it shines, rather than just bright.
I will report back when we get the next good cold night on how the 100% does sitting in the cold in a jug.

Mark I used to live out in Crested Butte Colorado for 3 winters, being a snowboard bum in my younger years as well. I have been to Wolf Creek near Pagosa Springs before...Great MT!

I talk to people at the dog park that I go to that are recent transplants from cold climates. The first winter they spend here (there in PHX), they are out in shorts and t-shirts. After their first summer, they are freezing like everyone else. It doesn't take long for the body to adjust. Wolf Creek is in the perfect location, right on the East side of the continental divide. They average 388 inches a year of snow. You are right, it is an awesome mountain and a family atmosphere. If you like steep, they have steep. My place was in Turkey Springs, about 13 miles west of Pagosa Springs, so about 50 miles to WC. I really want to bust the board out and go again, but my replaced left shoulder tells me it's a bad idea...Mark P.S. I remeber boarding when I was in my 40s and the youngun's being surprised that such an old guy boarded. I wonder how they would feel about a 62 YO...

According to my FSM the total cooling system capacity for the manual trans is 15.5 quarts or just under 4 gallons. The automagic trans takes a quart more or 4-1/8 gallons. I think I'll drain through the radiator and see how much I get out. If it's close to the 4 gallons I'll call it good. I don't see any drain plugs on the block in the FSM.

You might be able to take the thermostat out and pressurize the system to drive it out, but I don't think that the bit of mixed antifreeze left will make much difference...Mark

I just picked up 4 gallons of O'Reilly brand of EG antifreeze concentrate (must add water is says right on the label) for $12.99/gallon plus theft. I'll install it after we get back from Tucson. BUT I WON"T ADD ANY WATER!

When I was working on Poncho, my '91.0, I used 3 and about 3/5s of a gallon after draining the radiator and motor.
The lower radiator neck will drain out most of the block. I also swapped out my oil cooler gaskets while I was there.

Hi Oliver, Did you find a block of ice on your porch this morning? I am just dying to know, because it may affect the size of my anti-antifreeze water follower campaign bwaaaaaaaaaa ...Mark

On a serious antifreeze note (if that is even possible), I was thinking that it may be the 2-3 percent water that exists in "100%" antifreeze that keeps it from freezing. Looking at the stats provided by James1, it doesn't seem to take much water to dramatically affect the "anti-freezing" of antifreeze. I am no scientist, nor doctor and I have never played one on tv, but I did play Professor Snidersmoltz in the play "Professor Syndersmoltz's Pupils" in its 6th grade production at Kenilworth elementary school. No applause please, but I really think that the little bit of water does lower the freeze point. And no, this is not a shameless ad supporting my beliefs ...Mark P.S. This IS me being serious

Two days ago I got the new seal pounded into the housing for the np205 rear output and put the little housing back on with high temperature rtv. I then went to cleaning the output yoke a little more and decided that I need to replace it as it has a rough spots on it and also a lip worn into it. I figure that would probably eat the new seal, especially considering my rear output shaft has about 3/8 of an inch in and out movement. There is absolutely no side to side movement though, so I’m going to try my luck with just a new output yoke instead of a full rebuild. I don’t even want to know how much it would cost to have a shop rebuild the thing. I would rebuild it myself if necessary if I had more of a workbench than the bed of my truck. Man I wish I had a shop

I've been pricing 100% antifreeze of the ethylene glycol type but the best price I've found is $12.75/gallon. I heard it takes 5 gallons but I haven't consulted my FSM yet.

It's interesting to note that pure antifreeze alone will not perform the task of protecting your vehicle's cooling system much better than water would by itself. In fact, pure antifreeze will freeze at a temperature not much below where water does. In the coldest climates, the most effective mixture against freeze-up will consist of 60-70% antifreeze (with the rest being water) - not 100%.
