Take the 93... it's intercooled and has the updated VE pump.
Also they are all single axle... just dual wheel for the 1 tons

bob.

Re:what to buy??
89-93 there WERE 1 ton single axle trucks, unlike 94-02.
I'd say you're looking at $5k or so for the 90, probably $7-8k for the 93 if the body is really cherry. 1 tons cost more than 3/4 tons to get, and to maintain (brakes, bearings, such) are more expensive for them. Just keep that in mind and you'll be fine.

Re:what to buy??
I bought my father-in-laws' 89 3/4 ton with 75,000 on her. She's in excellent condition, but he says it is set up with ton axles and allison trans. Is this possible? He special ordered the truck in 89 and his memory isn't the best. Any help?

Re:what to buy??
Ive never heard of any special offerings from Dodge that offered the Allison trans. But, anything is possible I guess. The best way to tell is to crawl underneath the truck and look for a data plate on the transmission. There also should be a data plate on the rear axle.

Re:what to buy??
Just my .02 . As far as I know all of the CTD trucks used the same axle - Spicer 70. The GVW had to be over 8500# to deal with emissions. A HD 3/4 ton has the 8520 GVW as does a single wheel 1 ton. The spring packs on the rear may be different, but the front ends are identical. The 1 tons with duals are over 10,000# GVW. The rear end is the same. with different drums and heavier wheel studs. Limiting factor for gvw was tire capacity. I may be wrong, but this is my understanding. So in conclusion the difference between a D250 and a D350 with single wheels is 100

Re:what to buy??
Dodge made some changes every year these trucks were built, all work fine if you dont get carried away. 89's had Selectro Locking hubs and stuck way out from the rim many, were broken in field use because of this. 89's also had a regular radiator instead of crossflow, cooling could be a problem sometimes. 90's were a cross breed with some having crossflow rads and Warn hubs. 91's again a crossbreed with some having aftercoolers and some that didnt depending when the truck was built. 92-93 had larger spring blocks in the back so truck did not sit *** end low empty also manifold pressure was decreased but club cab were introduced. W250/350 4x4 had same running gear except spring rating and brakes(13x2-1/2 w250 or 13x3-1/2 w350 larger brakes would fit 3/4 ton) One ton duallies had bigger brakes front and rear with of course offset dish wheels and different stud sets to acommodate those wheels. All ran a HD60F front diff and a spicer70 rear axle 205 Tcase and Getrag 5spd, sorry did not have any thing to do with Auto-trans. Lots of guys on here can help you whatever you buy. PK
