Post WH1C mileage report

Well, I didn't want to say anything until I was sure, but my mileage went up since I swapped in the WH1C turbo. I was seeing a pretty consistent 16.5 mpg with the H1C. This is all local driving, much of it stop&go, the truck goes above 40 for about a mile and a half per day if I'm lucky. I got fuel at the same pump this time as last, same fillup procedure = 17.8 mpg. I think this is due to a change in driving style, I'm not trying to drive around the flutter all the time, so the truck gets into 5th more often. Alec, did you get the HX35 on yet?

It might be both the upgrade, and the stations switching back over to #2.

Well, I have a list of excuses as long as your arm, but the turbo is STILL sitting on the bench in the garage.

Are you running around in a higher gear more, now that you can? That is a sure fire way to improve milage. We seem to have been on summer fuel up here for a while now, but that might have had an effect. What were you getting last summer?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure most of the gain is from running in 5th more often. Last summer it got a pretty steady 16.5 mpg, in the winter it never went below 15 mpg. C'mon Alec, mine took me about an hour to swap, you don't have a spare hour laying around somewhere?

The real problem is that I was thinking I would put in a new gasket between it and the manifold, and niether of the jobber shops I go to can get it. I'm not a fan of the "big box" stores, but it seems like a lot of my shopping happens on Sunday or at night . . . Not to mention, I hate spending money at the dealer, and there isn't a cummins shop close by . . .

So now you have a genuine diesel "fuel sipper" (I think that might have been a Mack slogan at one time) It is amazing what keeping the rpms under 2000 will do for milage!

So, NOW are you going to buy some gauges . . .

Gauges are next, I promise! The manifold is drilled, as soon as my fun fund recovers from the pesky lil' Sig 245 that jumped out of the case at the gun store I'll order them. Before summer for sure, I want to have POD's in time for mosquito season. Why can't I seem to find any cheap hobbies?

P.S. Try Heath Diesel for the gasket set.
