I finnaly put antifreeze in it blew out a coolant line. I fixxed that and now the water pump went out. There still isnt a thermostat in there so it wasnt building any real pressure, I guess it was just time to go.

My question is I bought a new one for $37 and will be putting it on tomorrow and I need to know if there is any special instructions. I've never done one of these so I dont want to screw it up.LOL

The pressure is controlled by the radiator cap. Use some o-ring lubricant or vaseline on the seal and make sure you use good bolts and I added lock washers on mine. Also, you need a thermostat. One last thing, if you have any doubts about the tensioner, now's the time to change it.

The only thing you "have" to take off is the belt. Did the bearings go out or was it leaking out of the shaft?

The bottom bolt on the water pump is going to be a real PITA! I would put some heavy duty cleaner in there and let it circulate first. Removing the water pump is going to flush out most of the block because of its location.

It had a steady leak for quite a while so its been flushed over and over. LOL Plus I have flushed and filled it with antifreeze twice this week already.

This whole deal sux because I cant take my ATV anywhere without the cummins running and its supposed to be 40* tomorrow.

It takes a while but it gets to about 65-70* inside. It sometimes hits the notch right above the C.

The biggest thing to know is that the fan has reverse threads.
If Dad didn't have a book, I would have probably destroyed mine before I realized that I was tightening it instead of loosening it.

Straight forward parts swap.
I think it takes about 12 gallons of coolant IIRC.

You really need to get a thermostat in there. Without one, nothing forces coolant to go through the radiator so most of the coolant just recirculates in the block.

YOu don't need to remove the fan, at least I didn't on the 2 trucks I have done. There's enough room to barely get it out of there. Its only about a half hour job really.

when i bought my truck it had no thermostat. ironically it ran really cold, youd think it would drag all that warm water back in with no thermostat.

as for the amount of coolant it takes around 5 gallons, preferably low-silicate 50/50 mix.
