A lift and tranny jack help ALOT! I put the jack under the tranny removed the crossmember and unbolted the t-case separate. A couple of people can hold it but the tranny is heavy. Took about 8 hours to swap the tranny, flexplate and converter.
If you change the flexplate make sure you have all the correct torque specs, I have the adobe downloaded, dodge service manual and in the tranny section it list the torque for the flexplate wrong. Some tall jackstands are nice if you dont have a lift. The only problem I had was with one of the dowel pins didnt want to start when putting the new tranny in place. Also if you happen to read the Dodge service manual you dont have to pull half the stuff off they tell you to.
yea I have all the air tools I should need. I dont have a tranny jack but I may weld something up to work with a regular jack, i have tall stands if necessary.
as far as not taking off some of the stuff it tells you to, what are you exactly talking about? any tips or shortcuts that may speed this process up?

Exhaust, starter, and for some reason the front crank position sensor are listed as needing to remove. There is a bracket attached to the tranny that supports the exhaust but with carefull maneuvering you can get around without pulling the exhaust. There is an access hole on the rt side of the engine/tranny adapter plate that will let you pull the converter bolts, since I dont have a turning tool I just used a screwdriver and the starter ring gear to turn the engine, that way you can use your other hand to feel for the converter bolts as you turn the engine. Lots of the bolts do have locktite on them including the converter bolts, driveline bolts and crossmember bolts. Seperate the transfer case from the tranny if you dont have a stout tranny jack before you pull the tranny loose.
