I was running a TurboMaster for quite a while. I was pretty happy with it until the POD's overpowered it.

A wastegate is a valve that allows exhaust to bypass the turbine. It opens when boost gets too high. Less exhaust going through the turbine = less boost. Simple, no?

Too much boost can be bad. If you spin the turbo too fast it can explode. Over 40 psi on a stock turbo you're talking about a hand grenade with the pin pulled, it's only a matter of time. The other thing that happens is that once you get over a certain amount of boost, the turbo is making more pressure by heating the air rather than by compressing it. This means that you don't actually get more air, and that air is hotter. This starts happening around 30 psi on a stock turbo.

edit- If you have more questions, let's take this to PM. Like you said, don't want to 'jack the man's thread.
