Vent window wind noise

I have new weatherstripping on window and new door gaskets but how do I fix the vent window seal noise. If I push it closed tight enough it is quiet. Can that seal be replaced or what is the trick?

I put new production vent seal gaskets in my truck and the wind noise just moved to a different spot on the gasket.

If you can push on them you can try and slip something under the vent window latch to help keep the pressure on it the glass and gasket.

My redneck fix was to shut the window on a bead of wet silicon with a sheet of seran wrap from the kitchen between the silicon and the glass. It worked, but not pretty.

Old trick- got some heavy paper or light cardboard- like a piece of cereal box- and close the latch on it. If it still whistles fold it over and try again. Drop it somewhere you can find it again when you open the vent. That or just crack the vent open.

I am really looking for a way to fix the issue and not just rig it up. I think it would be difficult to stop just with a shim b/c it requires a fair amount of pressure when pushing on it to stop the noise.

I have a theory I plan to try when I get my doors apart on my project. I am going to remove the vent rubbers and soak them in "RU Glide". I have had a bottle of it for years and I use it to scrub down all rubber parts when I am rebuilding things. It makes old rubber black and supple (somehow that sounds dirty). Anyway, it has resurrected many windshield seals and such for me so I think it will be worth a try.

I had the same problem. The cure was to place an o ring between the latch and the vent window to allow the latch to pull the window tighter into the gasket. A temporay fix is to place a shim, a dime or nickel, between the latch and the window post.

Same here. I was going to try Sil-glide which is a silicone based lubricant we use quite ofte on o-rings etc. It allows rubber to expand, be more supple, and seal better.

Try any silicone based lubricant. Probably a type you can rub on in a gelly form is better than an aerosol.

My fix cost 30 cents. Stuck a quarter and a nickel in the latch.

FWIW,

After listening to that whistle for what seems a lifetime, I investigated what was actually wrong with mine. It's the latch.

In that link provided above, there's a repair to the latch, which allows it to not "flex backwards"... by replacing the worn parts in the latch. Mine was flexing backwards, not allowing the glass to contact the seal properly.

Fix the latch, and you can fix your whistle.

Could be coming from the gap between the door and A pillar.
The repo gasket for the up down window is not thick enough.
I'm going to tape up the gap on the window edge and the door gap and road test.
I think a wind deflector put on the A pillar would help some or is it the mirrors.

A long long time ago we used to have something called matches that came in a book, the cover of this book was used to wedge many things back into working order.

You could gap your points and set your plugs using the edge of the cover, ingenious tool that came with these fire starters.
