I have a old VW rabbit pump in pieces in the garage. If you need measurements or pics from anything let me know.

If you want the # 1-468-346-480

The one KTA is 'running' is NOT the stock Bosch one...To say it's been modified is an understatement. I don't what he did to it, but when I asked if I could use it in a daily driver with side excursions to the strip - his said NO!
IT was strictly a competition setup...

nice to see this thread is still alive. I have a 1.9 vw pump in the house now and am looking into several different ideas for all my diesels.

This thread is something that all of us should be really interested in.

can't wait to learn more

That depends on your definition of "Insanity". I prefer the term "Dedicated".
Without guys like Stillsmokin', R&D on our old junk would be nonexistant. You think BD or some other corporate-run outfit is gonna do anything thing like this for us 1st-genners?
Lookout Billary and Bomma, I'm votin' for Stillsmokin'!

Most competition rigs would, lets take the scheids lightning truck for a 5 hour drive and see how long it stays together!. "Here, hold my beer, I'm gonna try something"

For the good now.

From a fair amount of research, the 14mm cummins 6 cylinder head/rotor is not entirely a factory part.

It is 1 468 346 480 a modded version of 1 468 336 480

So what was its purpose? I like the idea of being a cummins part #, do you know what it was intended for?

I think it was just a 13mm 6 cylinder H&R, somebody (kta) had the good idea to make it, take it's specs, and apply them to the 14mm (max size) plunger. The size was limited by the hole size of the return spring retainer. It isn't a cummins part necessarily, it might be for a new holland 6 cylinder as it was larger in displacement (7.5 Liter?), just pure speculation though.

I just priced a factory replacement 12mm head and plunger for a 184 pump at about $1200. Yes thats right its not a miss print and that is just for the head a plunger!

WOW!!!
that thing doesnt look like it would be hard to machine.
the plunger seems like the only part that would take some time to figure out.
i've been thinking real hard at finding a chunk of aluminium and some bronze sleeves to throw in the ole cnc machine. I know the head is cast iron, but surely it can be milled out of aluminium. I think making a camplate that would inject fuel through 40' of the powerstroke would be the hard part.
gotta stop my brains hurting hahaha

Bloodhound, when I talked to KTA about is 14mm head, he said the tolerances are about .0001" or ten-thousandths of a inch. The heat of your hand is enough to make the plunger not fit into the head.

Keep it steel. The aluminum would flex to much under the pressure.

When Bosch makes these sets, you can only buy them as a set. The tolerances are so tight that you cannot make x number of parts and expect them to fit. Way to many variables.

Please take this with a grain of salt. I have been a machinist. I would still be there if not being laid off from lack of work. In fact, tomorrow I am heading over there to start the process of making cam plates
