I just had a new VE installed, but had an EPIC fuel leak on my old one. It completely soaked my PS/Vacuum pump assembly every time the truck was running for longer than I want to remember. Anyway, the constant fuel saturation has completely ruined the seals in my vac pump and power steering pump, so now I'm leaking a decent amount of oil from the vac pump/ timing case seal and probably from the PS pump/ vac pump seal also (if there's a seal there). Anyway, I need to replace these, but I can't find the right part number for the gasket set from Cummins. I found a number in another site's sticky but when I checked it with Cummins, it turned out to be a different part. The number I have is 4089842. This is incorrect. Anyone have the correct number?

Also, the job looks pretty straightforward. Remove both hoses, unbolt the assembly from timing case, separate the pumps from each other outside the truck, install seals, put them back together, bolt the assy back to the truck. Done. Am I wrong? Also, are there any tricky parts? Like how are the hoses connected to the pump? Are they easy to remove? Are the pumps hard to get apart once you have them off the truck, or do they just pry right apart? Thanks in advance for the help.

I resealed mine a few months back. It was very simple and took maybe 30 minutes atart to finish, including cleaning and a quick coat of paint. Not a bit of leak since, although it hasnt run much since then.

And I swear I looked in the sticky for 5 minutes and somehow missed that vac pump link...I amaze myself sometimes.

Also, could you not use gasket maker on it? I know Cummins approved certain types of gasket maker for the front timing cover, but can you do the same for the vac pump?

I bought a vane and seal kit off ebum for under $30. It has an improved double lip shaft seal that was nice even though mine was leaking from the o-ring in the pump body.

 

Peter Gould sells a vacuum pump rebuild kit containing ALL the seals and O-rings plus the Cummins seal and a DVD of how to rebuild the pump. He even includes some short lengths of PVC to drive out the old seals. Find him at:

x3 on Pete Gould's kit. And if I hadn't broken the oil pressure sender while putting the pumps back on the engine I would have been done a lot sooner! So be smarter than me and watch that thing.

 

Resurrecting this old thread to ask if this kit fill fix a lack of vacuum? I don't have oil leak or grinding, just no vacuum. Thanks

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd let others know that Geno's Garage sells the Gould reseal kits for $60 with the instructional DVD and Cummins gasket.
