vacuum pump

I'm not getting the vacuum I should be. Somewhere around the area of the pump I hear a pumping noise like I have the hose off the booster. Are the little pancakes rebuildable or might I need a new one?

OK. Have yet to determine where the problem is. Suppose I could run off one pancake temporarily if I got one bad.

You can still buy those diaphragm style vacuum pumps reman'd from NAPA, Rockauto etc.

I converted my 89 motor to the IC style vacuum/power steering set-up. Much easier to find parts for.

Thrashing, AFAIK, all you can actually buy is the PODS.
The assembly they attach to has been non-existant in the parts stores for years.

Nice to hear that the "new" set-up is working for ya'.

Scot pa, there are 2 hoses, 1 on each diaphragm, that 'T' into the one main line to the booster.
Double check that there isn't a crack in either of the lines, or check that a dipahragm isn't broken and causing the sound.

Mark.

That was what I was implying...that the vacuum "pods" are still available.

And Yes the system I got from you is working great!

The lower pod is bad. I clamped the line to it with vice grips and still had some vacuum at the other end of the hose. Clamped the hose from the top pod and had nothing. Looks like it will be fun to swap, with all the oil and stuff soaking it. The one pod will make the heater put hot air where I want it, and I have power brakes as long as I don't need them again soon, so I can at least drive the thing til I can afford parts.
