USA made water pump options?
I am looking for a USA made water pump option for my 12V.
Gates is now made in China.
Napa carries junk from China.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Where is the cummins one made? My cummins fuel pump was made in chinka, so I would assume
If. You really want an American made pump, you can always have one of yours rebuilt . its not new, but at least it would be American something or other.

My brand new Cummins QSB4.5L says made in China all over it. Manifolds, pipes, housings, ect.
While a Cummins brand water pump may say made in China it is made to Cummins standards. Where as a NAPA, Gates, AutoZone water pump may also says made in China but to lesser unknown quality standards.
I know we all bag on China for low quality products but they can and do produce very good items when they are paid for it and it is demanded. Cummins designed and engineered the water pumps, the quality is there with their name on it regardless of which facility built it.

I am also looking for a quality pump.
Rather than just telling how I should be doing things, would you like to recommend a brand? I was not really asking how someone else would word my question.
So far I am leaning towards just using a old OEM spare I have, just like I do with the brake master cylinders.
It is a shame that good, new replacement parts are so hit and miss.

That is the problem. One factory seems to be state of the art.
The next is stuck in the 40's and has minimal quality control.
The old "you get what you pay for", sometimes is true, other times your are buying over priced junk.

I have replaced 3 water pumps on my truck . the original had made in england on it . the napa pos that only lasted 3 months had made in england on it as well , but since napa asked for a core it seems to me the casting made in england is a moot point . some body is remaning it so you dont know the origin of the seal just the casting . long story short cummins one had made in england as well , 4yrs no problem .
Another vote for a Cummins pump, regardless of country of origin.
Thank you crazy clem!
Napa here in VT didn't want a core, when "I checked out" one of their pumps.
I bought one and when I got home to my shop and inspected it, I just re-boxed it up and returned it the next day.

I vote for Cummins as well. However, the last one I bought was of the "open" impeller designs. I've bought and ran a Duralast (Autozone) water pump years ago and ran it for quite a while without a single issue. Only reason I replaced it was because it's recommended to do so every 2-3 years along with the coolant itself. It wasn't weeping either. That particular pump I ordered for a '92 truck and was a "closed" impeller design which is said to be a bit more efficient.
Does that pump have the "closed" impeller?

by the way,my pump is original at 280,000+ miles
I had a friend that worked at NAPA and he told me that all they are is a re-boxing company. They get the cheapest parts and put them in NAPA boxes. I ordered a new (supposedly) water pump from Rockauto. I seemed good enough, but when I installed it, the impeller interfaced with the housing and locked it up. I ended up reinstalling the old one and am still running it...Mark
