I had to trim the opening in the dash panel, but the head unit from my wifes 2000 Grand Cherokee bolted right up and plugged right in. Coupled with the 10cd changer behind the seat, it's a great mod.

how did you get away with that?

My wife would notice right away if I took the stereo out of her car!

The day the music dies

It is my understanding that effective February 18, 2009 radio and television will be required by the Federal Communications Commission to change from the current "analog" broadcasting systems to "digital" broadcasting systems. So how will this effect your current in home and all other radio and tv receivers that you are currently enjoying? Simple, it makes them non functional paper weights. Your truck radio will become obsolete. This is why the prices are coming down on home and car stereo systems. The manufacturers should be placing tags to this change on all of the current electronic receivers stating if they are both analog and digital compatible. Not all are doing this. I would highly advise against buying any replacement radios at this time until the dust settles on what will be functional in the future.

This is what I just replaced my 5-year old Kenwood with, In addition to the usual A.M. and F.M. it also plays CD’s, WMA and Mp3 flies, Video Disk and DVD’s are viewed through a 3”TFT screen. And is Sirius ready not that I would get that.
It has auxiliary AV input for my soon to be installed rear looking video camera.
There is a video output for an additional LCD screen.
I do a lot of driving and it keeps my daughter occupied.
The picture is great and the sound is killer.

BTW that is only dust on the screen.

Goto somewhere like sounddomain.com and pick out what you like.

The install kits are included. Pretty simple to plug into your existing wiring with no mods.

Door speakers are 6x9" but the holes are to small and need to be trimmed to not block half the speaker cone.

Rear speakers are 4x10. Not allot available in that size. Might consider adapting some 5.25" rounds in there or somehthing.

I bought an install kit from flea-bay, had the correct wires and I did not have to splice- $20
CD head unit Wally-World- $50
6" X 9" in the doors- $45
4" X 10" behind the seat- $40

I now have good sound. Not the greatest but very good for the money.

Say, Trebor, can you give some hints where to verify this? Links? We just invested about $65,000 on a an LPFM radio broadcasting upgrade and haven't heard of this before, that is, that there's something new from what we have now. Could you be more specific as to the difference between analog and digital that you're referring to? It's my understanding that almost all current receivers are digital and have been for several years and all current transmitters of recent design are already digital? Further info would be appreciated.

JimmieD is RIGHT!

I stand corrected. JimmieD is right on. Folks disregard post#4 of this thread. I was mislead by comment #21 on: http://techdirt.com/article.php?sid=20070312/125053 and assume all the related responsibilities from passing that on. My fault for not doing the four hours of research I just completed on digital FM radio before I passed that information onto here. I hope this caused no inconvenience to anyone.

Thanks, Trebor! I get easily confused on the electronics technology cause they change the whole game plan more often than most folks change their socks. I could tell y'all stories about the FCC that you simply wouldn't believe, but remember, we're talking about a govt. agency...

Thanks again, Trebor!
