One important note that I think was missed:

The turbos on the non-aftercooled trucks have a smaller compressor wheel, and a smaller air intake hose.

I do not htink that you will get good results trying to run your stock small compressor with the other mods that you intend to perform.

You will most likely want to install an hx-35 or an hx35/40 hybrid turbo. Indeed, from what you are saying you want, I would emulate Frostie's set-up.

 

I was going to install the intercooler and then either have a intake elbow made or get one out of a junk yard from a intercooled truck. The turbo most like with be changed out also, to increase pressure from the drop of the intercooler.

 

That is what I was concerned about -- the volume of air required will be greater with the aftercooler (and more air means that you can add MORE FUEL ).
