Turn Signal Switch 1990 non-tilt
Turn Signal Switch 1990 non-tilt
I searched the stickies and, if it is there, I did not see it.
I am not yet 100% certain that the switch is even the problem.
The hazard flashers work fine, including the little green indicators and all four (six) corners.
Brake lights work fine.
With key=ON, the left signal does nothing anywhere.
The right signal blinks ONLY the right-rear light; no front lights and no green indicator.
All bulbs are fine.
Is there a fix for this or does it read like I will need to replace the switch?
This truck does NOT have tilt steering.
I have found several sources for tilt-steering switches, but have not been able to find any for non-tilt.
If I end up needing a switch, I prefer to replace it with an external non-cancelling Signal-Stat switch; I will install a floor-mounted dimmer (much preferred) and possibly just leave the wipers where they are.
Does anyone know whether this truck will require the 5-wire or the 7-wire Signal-Stat ?
I have had a Signal-Stat on my Ford for twenty-five-plus years and love it.

Sounds like a typical mopar warped cam in the signal switch. The plastic cam bends and no longer makes god contact with the switch points beneath it. Believe you can buy just the plastic cam and replace that on part?
Not sure on the difference between tilt/non-tilt...but if they are of the same manufacturer then could you not use a tilt in a non-tilt column? Perhaps might have to shift a couple of the wires in the bulk head?
I have used a turn sign switch from a 90-91 in an 89 column and had to move one or two wires around, other then that it was a direct fit. Same thing with using a turn signal switch from a 69 chrysler in my 68.

I wonder if that cam is the same for many Chrysler vehicles or specific only to similar model trucks.
If it is available by itself, I assume it is going to be a dealer part.
I am leaning hard toward clicking "Buy It Now" on the 7-wire Signal-Stat and just be done with it, but I also like to know the what and why of things for when someone else has the same problem.
For what it's worth, I absolutely hate these multi-function column-mounted switches; give me good old individual dash-mounted switches any day.
If you like floor mounted switches, the transit coaches I used to work on had left and right signal switches on the floor, always felt awkward for me to use.
Your left foot was always busy.
Your left foot was always busy.
I very much prefer a floor-mounted dimmer, but I never before knew of the existence of floor-mounted turn signals; I assume one could turn both sides on at the same time to act as hazard flashers ?
I just earlier put the order in the works for two of the Signal-Stat switches and a floor-mounted dimmer for good measure; there are seven trucks sitting out here and if the switch on one has gone bad, another is probably soon to follow.
I will probably be seeking you guy's knowledge and wisdom when I begin identifying which of the wires running up the column are the one's I need.
Ages ago, when I mounted the Signal-Stat in my Ford, it was originally equipped with two separate two-prong flashers and the 7-wire Signal-Stat eliminated those in lieu of a single three-prong flasher.
I really like the fact that the Signal-Stat is not self-cancelling and remains ON until I manually turn it OFF.
I also really like that the signals will work when the the switch-key is OFF; there are several advantages to that, one being that I can check the turn-signals on a very long trailer with the doors locked and the key in my pocket.
