Turbo questions

I heard a wh2c is the same as a hx40.Is that true?Is a hx40 to big for a lightly modified 1st gen.I will be getting bigger injectors soon and need a new turbo for egt control and the one I have is surging pretty bad.I have also found a hx 35 for sale,it will bolt right up wont it?O.K.one more. What about the wh1c?How does it compare to a hx35?And is there much difference in the gated and non h1c?I am not really considering the hx40 but was just wondering if they were the same?I guess what i'm asking is the differences in the wh1c and hx35.Thanks guys

The difference is how they are put together. The WH1C is clamped, the HX-35 uses a snap ring. Functionally they are identical. I don't know about a WH2C, AFAIK the old HX-40 eqivalent was the H1E. The HX-35 will bolt on if you keep your old turbine housing, if you use the 12 cm that comes on the turbo you will need to move or shorten the downpipe about 1.5 inches.

The exhaust housings are what is wastegated, right? So if I put a 16cm or use my old 18.5 temporarly,it will be a non gated hx35.Does this sound like a good set up.My stock h1c surges pretty bad.I have a standard transmission.

I squeezed my stock (uncut) downpipe behind a 12cm2 wastegated housing...so it IS possible. I eventually cut it, since the bottom part was rubbing the bellhousing.

You can't use a stock H1C turbine Housing on an HX35 turbo, since the HX35 turbine wheel is slightly larger than the H1C's.

Right now the HX-40 is way too big, the truck will be a dog and EGT will be high. The 18 cm or preferably the 16 cm on the HX-35 will do fine. The H1C and HX-35 turbine housings ARE interchangeable both ways.
