Turbo help
Need advice on picking out a turbo....
Ive bought the following for an stock engine.
4" exhaust - no muffler
DDP stage 2 injectors
BHAF
3200 RPM spring
Fuel pin
Gauges
Ive heard to get a urbo off a 94-98 Dodge, but are theyre better choices? On ebay I only see the chinese HX35's for 350.00.
Should i just swap out the exhaust housing?
Lemme know what you think or if im over looking something on my mods....

I have read alot of bad stuff about the chinese turbos. Remember you will get what you pay for. Looks like you have a good recipe so far to make some good power. Do you still have the stock converter in the trans? If you do it probably wont take much of that much power.

I do have the stock convertor. I wanted to get a shift kit and adjust the bands an dpossibly a convertor. I would never buy a turbo made in China. what are my cheaper options over the 21CM stock housing?
You could put on a 14cm turbo housing from gillett, then if you wanted later you could put on a 60mm comp. upgrade. Which would work good with your mods. you have now. However if you plan more mods. you might want a bigger turbo altogether.

I just found a 16 cm housing for sell. I may pick it up, i think itll stay cooler than a 14cm...maybe???
What about torque convertors for a 518....Im sure ill blow it if I have to drive nice to save it.

The way i went about it, for the cost of the wheel and housing upgrade i bought a whole new, more efficient and smaller housing turbo.
Went with a He351CW, a few mods needed to install it but not to bad.
Havent got it on yet but have all the parts to do the swap, waiting for space in my shop.
Many have used it and say it is the best bang for the buck for the 1st gen's.

04.5-07 5.9 dodges, the he341 came on the 03-04 and look very similar but are smaller. I say the HE351 is the best bang for your buck for a 1st gen turbo. I loved mine, and like BILTIT said, you can buy a nice newer used he351 for cheaper than the exhaust and compressor housing upgrades. And they have a 4" exhaust outlet to match your 4" exhaust.
The HE351VGT is on the 07-10 6.7 dodges, it is a variable turbo and you have to figure out a way to control it, The HE351CW is just a normal turbo thats wastegated and much simpler, but they are pretty much the same size. Search HE351 and you should find lots of info.
