Help! need turbo ID help!

hello folks,

I am helping put on a small tractor and truck pull and i need some help in regaurds to pickups.

i dont know where else i should of put this post but any help is apreciated!

we have just a few rules for pickups one being Stock Turbo.
there lies the problem i was wondering if some of u guys could post some pics of STock turbo's or give me some pointers to look for when trying to decide whats Stock and whats Not.

we have several trucks that come with twin turbos and P pumps ETC. turning ive heard 600HP and 1200 FP and were trying to seperate the wild cards from stockers! and hopefully have enough of them for a open class of some sort

Also, anyone in the central illinois area is welcome to the "small town tractor pull" its in laura illinois on RTE 78 between peoria and Galesburg!

Any other questions or help e-mail me at mem988@hotmail.com

Thanks
mark megan

Seems like a hard rule to enforce without very experienced inspectors. Playing devil's advocate here: If I take the stock HX-40 off an 8.3 liter Cummins and put it on a 5.9 liter Cummins, is it still a stock turbo? The turbo on my truck is stock for a '94 and my truck is a '93, is that still stock? Powerstroke pickup guys like to swap in a turbo that's stock on a Powerstroke powered van, is that still stock?

I'd hate to be in your shoes, good luck.

I think you should enforce the stock idea as "what comes on the truck from the factory" if that wasnt the idea already.

You can check data plates on the turbos and use your eye http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/turbo_faq.htm (scroll down). Now what gets tricky is identifying exhaust hsngs on stock turbos. You could measue the width up top but other than that, i wouldnt know how.

Mark,
what have you gotten yourself into?

Welcome to the right place to learn all about the Dodge CTD and other things, too.
If I was you, I wouldn't fret about the turbo's too much. I would run a stock only class and a open anything goes class. With a few hours of reading you will be able to look at a truck and tell whether or not it's factory. I'd allow open exhaust in any class however

thanks for the help guys..... i knew i had come to the right place...
the only thing i have going for me is that its a small pull with just a few trucks that need to be looked at( we mostly already know whos cheating) or is trying to .
hey i love the High horsepower trucks as much as the next guy maybe even more im just trying to keep them from Slaughtering the guy with the Bone Stock powerstroke!

those #'s will help some but i think its going to be more of a chore then we had intended!

oh well, we shall see what comes from this!

Still like to encourage anyone from central illinois to e-mail me and come see the Show!

Thanks
mark
