turbo barking / chirping

ok so I put a wastegated exhaust housing on my truck sometime ago. And so far if you accelarate harder than normal or if you put a tremendous load on it starts chirping then if you suddenly drop the throttle to nothing it barks, loudly. The intake side of the turbo is the factory size. Anybody got a suggestion, or a replacement setup that I need to look for that could be better than this.

Other than this problem the setup works, absolutely no lag and im pushing 45 psi on the boost gauge.

What year of truck do you have?

Sounds like you are over-speeding the turbo and running it outside of the efficiency range, especially at 45psi.

A better turbo that spools well is the HE351CW off 04.5-07 dodges. Its not complete bolt-in but many have done it with minimal changes.

It's compressor surge caused by not having MWE slots. You can install an upgraded compressor section. HTT and Gillette Diesel used to be the sources but I've been away for a few months.

^^^This

Gillette is backed up pretty bad on the compressor upgrades. Their lead time is sickening. The best price I've seen on the 60mm upgrade is at Big Bad Diesel performance. Not sure what their website is called but Google will pull it up. They're very 1st gen friendly

Had the same problem on my 92 when I installed a 12cm housing, Wannadiesel steered me in the right direction and I did the 60mm wheel and housing from Gillette and problem solved. Thank you Faith

hey-Hey!!!,
Given that you're seeing surge, go for the 8-bladed wheel. Its surge line is across lower flows at a given pressure than the 6-blade variants( based on HX40 maps that these compressors spring from ).
cheers,
Douglas
