Hi all. I know there is a sticky on this somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. My truck won't shut down when I turn the key off. Not sure if it's the solenoid or something in the whole assembly. Is there an exploded view of the whole shut down mechanism? If there is can someone send me the link. Thanx and have a great weekend!

Pull the wire off your shut down solenoid on your ve pump. If the truck stays running the problem is with the solenoid. The solenoid has a plunger and a spring and when power is cut it releases the plunger and the spring pushes the plunger down to shut it off. It is more likely to be an electrical problem like your ignition isnt cutting off the power to that wire.

I checked the electrical going to the shut down solenoid. It is working properly. So, it must be the solenoid. Can I buy this aftermarket, or is it a Cummins only part? I am going to install a shut down cable also. I am going to install a shut down cable also. Thanx for all the info and help!!!

if it is your fuel shut off solenoid, I have had the same problem, and bought a new on for $10 from this place www.dieselvw.com, the first one failed but they sent me a replacement for free

This is kind of funny. It seems these issues go in cycles. every few years the same questions come around. If you turn your pump up really far. what happens is you end up blowing a chunk out of the rubber tip on the tip of the shutdown solenoid plunger. You can replace the solenoid but it will probably happen again. Some have modified the plunger by grinding it flat instead of concave. Or you can do the pull cable mod. Neither of my trucks have functioning solenoids. I pull the plunger and leave it out, the plunger can actually cause power problems. Good luck

There is a lever on the side of pump push it down and it will kill engine.

What are the chances of their $6 throttle-shaft bushing fitting our application ??

not to sure but for 6 bucks I think it would be woth finding out, haven't had a problem yet with it except reploacing the gasket when i replaced the governor spring for the 3k , makes a big difference
