Joined pull cable crew today

Well, guys, i got my truck fixed today.
Went to NAPA & got a #731-1103 pull cable.
Mounted cable in the top of the panel below column & routed it through the rubber grommet all my other wiring passes through on top left of firewall.
Works great . . no i wish i had a hand throttle.

That cable is very close to the one I used. Here's some shots of mine. I don't want to drill any holes in any of the panels though, so I'm going to fab up a bracket to place it close to where I have it now.

the cable on mine just broke off where I had it attached to the shut down lever the other day so I replaced it with a piece of multistrand bike brake cable and attached it to the T handle, works great and shouldn't break again.

Now did you guys do this because the shut down solenoid quit or did you do it so you wouldn't have to worry about the solenoid braking at an inopportune time. And what did you do with the solenoid just unplug it. I'm thinking of getting everything ready just incase the solenoid doesn't work one day.

i used normal choke cable 72" or something of that length from canadian tire, not sure what you have there, but i just used that and dug into the bike parts for the cable clamp type of set up on the shut off solenoid, and another bracket near the back to hold the cable, the parts from a chevy truck, not sure what the part was used for though.

I'm getting ready to do it because I kept eating shutdown plungers and my brass tipped one doesn't work too well.

Solenoid went bad on freeway one night & I had to pull it home the Rampage.
End of plunger looked chewed up, so i permanently cured the problem.

Did you remove the guts or just leave everything intact and add the cable.

How did you guys attach the end of the cable to the shut down lever. Looks like some used a bolt with a hole drilled in it.

You should gut it. It will keep losing chunks and all that rubber has to go somewhere. Also it can put a hurtin' on your dyno numbers if the key gets shut off on the dyno - right Brad?
