fuel cutoff soleniod. as opposed to a gasser, there is no electricty to shut off to stop an engine so fuel has to be cut off.

You're shutdown solenoid is toasted. Well, not actually. The rubber tip fell off the plunger, or the plunger is stuck in the bore. If you're replacing the solenoid, the VW part number is cheaper. I'm sure someone here can supply that number. It's the same part that was supplied on VW diesel Rabbits and such.

Save your clutch and pop the hood and use the manual shutdown lever. It's on the side of the injection pump facing the fender. Or you could join the cable shutdown crew by running a cable from the lever to the inside of the cab. Just pull it to shutdown.

It's the round cylindrical object at the back of the pump with the wire connected to it. If you disconnect the wire from it while it's running it should kill the engine if the solenoid is OK. If it dies then you could have a bad switch.

There is a mechanical cutoff on the side of the VE pump that a lot of guys wire a pull cable to because a bombed pump can damage the rubber tip on the solenoid plunger and cause the same problem.

okay if the solonoid is the thing on the back of the pump with the two wires (i think they are blue and black) connected to it then i was looking at the right thing.. if thats was the right part i disconnected them with the truck running and it did not die.

The VW Solenoid P/N is 028-130-135-B, though I just use a pull cable now.
