Transmission questions
A GV under/overdrive unit will give you the gear splitting when you need it, and you keep your lightweight truck transmission comfort and ease of operation when splitting is not needed. Pretty much the best of both worlds... A new one will set you back around $3.5K when it's fully installed. I grabbed one for $1.2K and added $800 in parts.

GV over/underdrives work on autos as well as on manuals. On a 5 speed or any manual transmission for that matter, the GV unit bolts to the transmission tail housing on one side and to a shortened driveshaft on the other. Hook up the electronics, put a rocker switch on your stick and that's basically it.
As far as using it, you have 2nd over - no 1st over - to 5th over, at the flip of the rocker switch. It has a little bit of a lag, no sequential, racing type of gears, but it splits pretty nicely. On the NV45 for instance, it is really nice to have 3rd over.
