Transmission Q: Slipping in Reverse

I might go look at a '92 D350 that is "slipping in reverse".

What would cause this? Just loose bands or wore out frictions?

Or is it more likely to need a complete rebuild?

It would be a farm work truck for me, so it does not have to work perfect. And besides I have a spare tranny in my '93 W250 wreck.

Thanks,
JP.

2 possiblities:
1. Rear band is out of adjustment or worn out.

2. Front clutch is burned up, in this case 3rd gear will be soon to follow.

If I get the truck I'll be learning some transmission repair the hard way. In fact, I'm looking forward to doing a transmission. It should be easy with the excellent pictorial threads and sites that DTR First Gen members have posted over the last year.

Thanks for the replies,
JP.
