Anyone have any experience with either of these two Harbor Freight transmission jacks? I have a HF store here in town, I went and looked at them, one is a 800lb capacity jack and looked ok, the other is a monster, a 2000lb capacity. I usually like to overdue things. When I bought a engine hoist, I didn't go for the 1 ton unit, I got the 4 ton unit from them and it worked well.

Two questions on transmission removal. Do I really have put the truck on jackstands, even with a tall 4x4? Do I really have to separate the trans and t-case before pulling them?

the smaller one is junk I used it on mine and coulnd't get it to line up because of the divit in the top pan so I put it on my regular floor jack and in less than 1/2 hour went right in worked with the other jack for several hours good luck

I would think all that stuff would work fine. I have an old school hand crank trans jack. The floor jack would work the same. I like HF tools stuff for things I'm only going to use once and a while and if I need to modifly it for the job I don't feel bad compared to something that was 4 times the cost. I usally like to go overkill because you never know.

If you're gonna do it like the FSM suggests, then yes.

I was replacing the clutch on an f150 and needed a transmission jack so i went and bought one from harbor frieght. To make a long story short the thing broke and the transmission landed on me and my brother. I swore from then on that i would never buy anything from harbor frieght again.

Beware of stuff from harbor Freight. Their quality control department must be run by Chinese kids.

I have no problem using stuff from harbour freight, other than stuff like drill bits, chisels, and small elecrical powered tools. I have their jacks and such, they all work great and never give me a problem.


As for jacking up the truck, i had to do it when i pulled my trans. My truck is a 4x4 and sits high. There was no way the trans and the jack was going to slide out from under the truck with the tires on the ground.

Check the 1st number of your VIN, you might own the Mexican one!! 1=American, 3=Mexican.

That info is for the 94-2002 trucks, I am not positive about the 1st gen or 3rd gen.

Our early 1st gens were made up here, but later 1st gens were made down south. Same as the engines, early 89's, possibly 90's were not produced at CMEP in Columbus,IN. Check your engine tag.

I have no problem with HF's big stuff. I bought a engine hoist and it performed well. I plan on buying the 2k lb unit.

BTW harbor freight, in their stores, does carry some Lincoln stuff, I have 3 Lincolns, too bad only one works though becasue a rebuild is like $240.
