Harbor Freight shop press/Getrag question
Has anyone torn a getrag apart with a Harbor Freight 12 or 20 ton shop press before? Or does anyone have one of these shop presses that can measure the 'bed width' to tell me whether or not I can fit the assembled mainshaft/ gears to press things off the mainshaft etc. From what I see, the 1-2 synchro assembly is 5.5" and 1st gear is 7". I think I could get away with a bed width of 5.5". The HF site doesn't say what it is. My local store doesn't have any in stock or I'd proby already have one.
The past two getrags I've gone through I've borrowed a bearing splitter and a large two jaw puller. I'd like to have these tools for myself or have a shop press that would work as well. The press would come in handy of course for other things in the garage I'm sure. Thanks.

bgilbert you seem handy with tools. My press was too narrow for a project I did so I used some 4'' channel and made one with a wide place in the middle, just braced it up good to make it a little more safe. Did this many years ago and still have the wide bed for the press for the bigger parts. Good luck.
