Transmission fluid line
I managed to fubar the line with the temperature sensor in it. I have an earlier 727 line. Is it possible to run without the temp sensor until I find a replacement?

It should be, as I have heard of folks using the temp sensor port as a way to install a tranny temp sensor for their gages.

My understanding is that when the sensor reads high temp it disengages overdrive. Just wanted to make sure that OD would still work without it. These trucks aren't exactly "smart", ie computer everything, so it's probably just an on/off switch.

So if I leave the temperature sensor plugged in and secured out of harms way, will I have OD? Or, jumper the plug? I gonna have to play with it I guess. I'll check out AZ to see if they have that line but I doubt it would be in stock and I want to get the brick rolling this weekend.

Leave it connected or jumper it, your choice.

Autozone really loves their "hot" line! At $280 I think I will look for used.
Hey Cougar, I've read some of your stuff on the 47rh. I have a V10 version sitting in the garage for a year or so that I hope to rebuild.

Years ago I wanted a trans fluid temp gauge in my hot line and didn't want to loose the switch that disengages the overdrive at high temps. I used half inch compression fittings to splice in a branch tee to accomplish the hot line right where it crossed under. Worked great until I needed to add an auxiliary cooler and replaced the transmission fluid pan with one that has a bung for a temp gauge. I plumbed the cooler in with off the shelf hydraulic lines from Tractor Supply and brass compression fittings and adapters from True Value Hardware. I reused the ends of the factory lines where they tied into the transmission. The pressure isn't very high on the coolant lines and the hydraulic lines are over kill. Just convenient. Now I control the overdrive with an old fashion headlight dimmer switch. Don't even have the temperature switch anymore.
